THAMESIS 9ct Gold + Natural Garnet Flower Pendant

£420.00

The THAMESIS flower pendants are inspired by the natural garnets sometimes found on the Thames foreshore.

The mystery of the 'Thames garnets' has fascinated me since I started Mudlarking.

Why are they there? What was their original purpose? Some say they had industrial/abrasive purposes, destined for factories on the Thames. Some think bags of the stones were cut to steal the gems as they were unloaded from river barges.

Note* You must have a valid license to search the Thames foreshore. Contact the PLA for information on permits.

Each garnet is classed as 'rough' and are uncut by human hands. They maintain their natural structure (a naturally crystallised form called cubic system ie dodecahedra). Inclusions may be visible in the stones. They are set as I find them on the foreshore.

The garnets are a mix of dark red to very dark red in colour when held to the light. I believe they are Almandine garnets, which come originally from modern day Austria.

Each THAMESIS flower is hand made from 9ct gold from a wax original and includes traces of fingerprints and the making process.

Each pendant is made individually, so will differ slightly from the photos below. Each flower is approx 1.6-1.8cm wide.

The central garnet is mounted with four gold prongs and sits sturdily into the flower.

Each pendant is fully hallmarked by the Assay Office in London.

As each pendant is made to order, please allow approx 6 weeks from ordering to posting.
